What’s Happening This Weekend in the Chicago Southland!
With temperatures in the 70s and little rain in the forecast, this will be a great weekend for all the unique festivals and events in the Chicago Southland. From art to Chicago Fire Soccer, area garage sales and running with the horses at Balmoral Park.
Friday, June 7th – Friday 12:00 – 9:00 p.m.; Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Centered at Martin Avenue and Ridge Road in Downtown Homewood
Art and Garden Street Fair is a two-day festival featuring unique artisans, activities and live entertainment. Kicking off the festivities at noon on Friday is Grammy Nominated children’s performer Justin Roberts and The Not Ready for Nap Time Players. This two-day festival features over 45 unique artisans and vendors, activities for all ages, gardening workshops, music from around the world and food from Homewood’s best restaurants. This festival is free and open to the public however there is a fee for specific art activities.
City Wide Garage Sales
Friday, June 7th – Saturday, June 8th
The Garage Sale is the entire town. There is a map on the internet with all homes listed. It is a great time to clean house and make a little cash. It is also a time for visitors to come and get great items for less money.
Saturday June 8th – race starts at 4:15 p.m. – BrewHaHa starts at 5:00 p.m.
Balmoral Park Race Track – 26435 South Dixie Highway, Crete, IL
The coolest 5K of the year! Run the historic grounds of Balmoral Park and finish on the track with horses as they warm up for races later that evening. The BrewHaHa Beer Festival features dozens of craft beer, food, live music and live horse racing staring at 7:10 p.m.
Saturday June 8th – race starts at 9:00 a.m.
Main Park – 10925 LaPorte Road, Mokena, IL
Event components include a 5K (3.1 mile) USATF certified course and chip timed run and fun walk followed by kids’ dashes, refreshments, entertainment and an awards ceremony.

The Chicago Fire take on the Portland Timbers.
Family Fishing Days
Saturday, June 8th – 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Lake Katherine Nature Center & Botanic Gardens – 7402 West Lake Katherine Drive, Palos Heights, IL
Fishing, food and fun for the whole family! No fishing license required. Raffle prizes and trophies will be awarded at the end of each session. Dry-land Fly Fishing and Casting for Beginners. Food Vendors
Sunday, June 9th features two free Concerts on the Green – Both starting at 7:00 p.m.
New Odyssey
New Odyssey – Outstanding arrangements of almost every style are performed on 30 different musical instruments! With a unique combination of great music, audience participation, and sheer zaniness, mayhem can ensue at any moment.
The Ragtops give oldies lovers a real reason to applaud! Few groups in Chicago can recreate the great mood and sounds of the 50’s and 60’s the way they do. From Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson and what about the great vocal groups like Dion, The Belmonts and The Coasters. You’ll think you’re back in time!
